How to create a multi-color line brush

This is a very useful tutorial for creating decorative brushes. Not as your main brush for drawing, or maybe it is; that's up to you, but for decorations, small details in scenes or, why not? for abstract paintings.

For this tutorial, I created a brush with a wider stroke so you can clearly see the effect on each large stamp, but you can create it using any shape.

Step 1 - Create the main shape

Paint any shape you like on the canvas, in black and white. The brush only paints with the black outline, that is the area used as the brush's stamp, and it will be filled with different colors.

📌 Keep in mind that if you want the brush shape to connect to the next one in a straight line, you must align the ends so they are on the same horizontal line. That way, you won't have to adjust the rotation angles.

Step 2 - Brush creator

Open the brush creator (in the top-left menu) and click the “Use Current Page” button in the brush creation tool.

The brush stamp you created will appear, and you can begin configuring it.

Step 3 - Brush settings

Adjust the spacing until you find the setting that best suits the shape you've created. There's no specific measurement, it depends on the effect you want to achieve.

In my case, I want each stamp to start right where the previous one ends, simulating a line. So I adjusted the spacing until it looked right.

If you want a solid shape, such as a stamp, set the minimum size to the maximum.

Next, adjust the rotation to "Directional (follows the stroke)". As before, there's no specific number; keep trying until the stamp's rotation matches the effect you want.

Step 4 - Test the brush

Go to the brush library, and select the "Temp. Brush Creator"Next, open the "Dirty Brush" toolEnable the tool, select "Per stamp" and pick any color from the color tool. Adjust the values, and that's it! You have your own brush with colorful stamps!Now, the only limit is your creativity. You already know how to do it: you can create your own brushes using chained stamps.

This is a simple example, but just imagine all the things you can do.
