Save and import

Everything you paint lives on your own device. There are two ways to keep it safe, and they do the same job from opposite sides: My library looks after it for you, and Settings → Save / Import is where you do it by hand.

The Settings panel on the Save / Import section, with the notice at the top and the save and import options below.

The automatic way: My library

If you have a library, RobinPad writes a copy of the whole thing into it every few minutes: your pages, your brushes, your tapes, your themes, your palettes and your settings. Open My library → Backups, switch on Automatic save and choose how often it runs: 5, 15, 30 or 60 minutes.

A copy is only written when something has really changed, so the folder never fills up with identical files. RobinPad keeps the last five and deletes the oldest one when a new one arrives.

Automatic save works in Chrome, Helium, Brave, Edge, Opera, Vivaldi, Arc and Chromium. In the Brave browser you have to allow access to your files, because it blocks that by default.

From that same screen you can also Save a backup now, Import a backup with a copy you made on another computer, Restore an older one, or delete the ones you no longer want.

The manual way: this section

This section is for when you would rather not use a library and save each thing on its own. The notice at the top of the panel says the same thing, and the link next to it takes you to My library if you change your mind.

Save writes to the file you choose. There are three options:

  • Current Pad: all pages, layers and effects of the pad you have open.
  • Settings: your shortcuts, appearance options and active palette.
  • All data: a copy of your whole library in a single file. Use it when you move to another computer.

Import brings a saved file back in. You pick it with the Import button, or drag it and drop it on the card. The three options are Pad, Settings and All data.

Keep in mind that when you import, the imported content replaces what you have now. So if you don't want to lose anything, save it before you import.

Nothing leaves your computer

Nothing here is uploaded anywhere. Every file RobinPad writes lands on your machine, and you decide where it goes.

Even so, a saved file is just that: one file. If your computer dies, every file living in the same place goes with it. Save a copy somewhere else, such as an external drive or a folder in the cloud, and you have a real safety net.
